Nestle India Highlights Cost Volatility, Focuses on Volume-Driven Growth Amid Global Challenges
FMCG giant Nestle India has expressed concerns over fluctuating input costs amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to pursuing volume-led growth in the upcoming fiscal year. Chairman and Managing Director Manish Tiwary emphasized the importance of expanding consumption, enhancing market penetration, and driving operational efficiencies as key strategies moving forward. He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of global markets and the potential impact on pricing and costs.
Geopolitical Uncertainties and Cost Pressures
Tiwary highlighted the volatility in global markets, which has made it difficult to predict future conditions. He noted that geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, are contributing to rising raw material prices and increased costs associated with crude oil-linked packaging. While he did not announce any immediate price hikes, he pointed out that many FMCG companies, including Hindustan Unilever, have already implemented price increases of 3 to 5 percent in response to a 15-20 percent surge in raw material costs. Tiwary emphasized that despite sourcing over 97 percent of materials locally, Nestle India may not be fully insulated from inflationary pressures if the situation worsens.
Focus on Volume Growth and Brand Investment
Despite the uncertain economic landscape, Nestle India reported positive momentum in FY26, primarily driven by volume growth across its product lines. Tiwary mentioned that the company significantly increased its advertising investments in the latter half of the fiscal year to bolster its core brands. Looking ahead to FY27, he reiterated the company’s commitment to volume-led growth, emphasizing the importance of investing in brand development while maintaining disciplined cost management. Tiwary stated that Nestle’s strategy of leveraging technology and optimizing internal costs is yielding positive results.
Rural Expansion and Future Acquisitions
Nestle India is also focusing on expanding its reach in rural markets through its ‘Rurban’ strategy, which aims to increase distribution points from 25,000 to 45,000. Tiwary expressed confidence that the rural business would outpace overall sales growth. Additionally, the company is preparing to open its tenth factory in Odisha, reinforcing its commitment to supporting volume-led growth through continued investment. Tiwary mentioned that the company remains open to acquisitions if suitable opportunities arise, indicating a proactive approach to expanding its portfolio over the next few years.
Financial Performance and Outlook
In FY26, Nestle India reported total revenue of Rs 23,194.95 crore, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 14.46 percent. The company’s profit for the fourth quarter rose to Rs 1,110.9 crore, with product sales revenue reaching Rs 6,723.75 crore. Tiwary concluded by affirming that Nestle India will persist in its strategy of driving volume-led growth while adapting to the evolving market conditions. The company’s focus on core brand investment and operational efficiency positions it well for future challenges and opportunities.
