National Traders’ Welfare Board Meets to Boost Business Environment
The 9th Meeting of the National Traders’ Welfare Board (NTWB) took place at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, led by Chairperson Shri Sunil J. Singhi. The meeting emphasized significant reforms and new initiatives geared towards improving the Ease of Doing Business in India.
Key Legislative Reforms Announced
Among the notable topics discussed was the Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill, 2026. This legislation proposes amendments to 784 provisions across 79 Central Acts, focusing on the decriminalization of 717 provisions. The aim is to minimize the compliance burden on traders and foster a more business-friendly environment.
Support for Small Businesses and E-Commerce
The meeting also spotlighted the efforts of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to streamline the licensing and registration process for food businesses. These changes significantly ease compliance issues, especially for small traders.
In terms of e-commerce, the Rajasthan Trade Promotion Policy, 2025, was revealed, which includes a reimbursement scheme covering 75% of platform fees (excluding shipping charges) for small traders, up to ₹50,000 for one year.
Additionally, programs like Udyam Registration and the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana are enabling small businesses to obtain collateral-free loans, thereby promoting entrepreneurship throughout the sector.
Advancing Digital Empowerment
The council received a presentation from the ONDC team about a new initiative called “DigiDukaan.” This Business-to-Business platform is currently operational in Hyderabad, with plans for expansion into Jaipur and Bengaluru. The goal of DigiDukaan is to enhance the digital capabilities and market access of small retailers and kirana stores.
Establishing State-Level Boards
The necessity for creating State-level Traders’ Welfare Boards was a central point of discussion. A Board has already been established in West Bengal, with active efforts in other states such as Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, and Jammu & Kashmir to set up similar organizations.
The NTWB is committed to fostering ongoing collaboration with various Ministries and Departments, ensuring a timely and effective response to issues raised by traders across the nation. The overarching mission is to simplify trade processes, empower traders, and promote inclusive economic development.
This significant gathering included both official and non-official members representing various trade associations and states/UTs, alongside representatives from nine different Ministries and Departments of the Government of India.
