National Meeting Advances Scheduled Caste Empowerment Initiatives
The Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY) had a productive national meeting today at Manthan Hall in New Delhi, led by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar. Key officials and representatives from various states gathered to discuss strategies for empowering Scheduled Caste communities through government initiatives.
During the meeting, Minister Kumar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the social and economic status of Scheduled Castes. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between state and central governments to ensure the effective implementation of PM-AJAY. The Minister called on states to prioritize the scheme and utilize funds efficiently to maximize benefits for the communities involved.
Reviewing Progress and Future Plans
The committee took time to review the progress of PM-AJAY from fiscal years 2021-22 through 2025-26, noting significant achievements thus far. A total of 15,387 villages have been declared as “Adarsh Gram,” and over ₹1,730 Crore has been distributed to states via the Grant-in-Aid Component. This has directly benefited more than 250,000 individuals and groups through skill development and livelihood opportunities. Additionally, 785 student hostels have been constructed, providing crucial support for higher education among SC students.
An exciting update from the meeting included the successful rollout of the AJAY Mobile App, facilitating digital surveys in 24 Indian languages while requiring geo-tagged and time-stamped verification for community assets. This innovation aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the program.
Collaboration and Consensus
Representatives from various states acknowledged the progress made under the PM-AJAY scheme and suggested increasing the fund allocation for its continued success. They advocated for strengthening implementation strategies and improving convergence among various sectors involved. A broad consensus emerged among committee members on necessary shifts for the scheme’s future, including:
- Expanding PM-AJAY’s Scope: Plans are underway to scale all components of the scheme to better meet the needs of aspiring SC communities across India.
- Comprehensive Livelihood Development: A targeted approach will be applied to enhance livelihood and skill development opportunities for SC individuals.
- Increasing Hostel Allocations: The committee recommended additional funding to construct more hostels, which will support the educational growth of SC students and promote social cohesion.
The CAC’s meeting marks a significant stride towards the government’s vision of an empowered Scheduled Caste community, with collaborative efforts set to intensify in the coming phases of the PM-AJAY initiative.
