National Agriculture Fair to Empower Farmers in Madhya Pradesh

The National Agriculture Fair, a significant event for farmers, will take place in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, from April 11 to 13. This three-day fair aims to provide comprehensive insights into various agricultural aspects such as crop insurance, credit facilities, improved seeds and fertilizers, organic certification, and marketing strategies through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, encourages local sarpanches to ensure broad participation from every village, making the fair a success.

A Living University for Farmers

During his recent virtual interaction with regional sarpanches, Shri Chouhan emphasized that the upcoming fair will serve as a transformative ‘Krishi Mahakumbh’, offering solutions ranging from seed procurement to market access. He described the event as a “living university” for farmers, where they can explore modern agricultural tools, attend workshops on organic farming, and gain crucial knowledge on insurance and credit options. This initiative is designed to guide farmers towards a more secure and prosperous future in agriculture.

On-the-Spot Crop Insurance Assistance

As part of the fair’s offerings, farmers can obtain crop insurance policies directly from insurance companies under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The event will also feature ‘Kisan Pathshala’, where interactive platforms will address farmers’ queries regarding insurance claims, premium sharing, and more. Experts will guide attendees in easy-to-understand terms to help them effectively utilize insurance as a risk management tool.

Financial Guidance and Infrastructure Development

The fair will delve into agricultural credit and financing, informing farmers about Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), term loans, self-help groups, and opportunities under the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF). Various banks and financial institutions are set to establish stalls for on-the-spot approvals, enabling quick access to necessary funds for investment in storage and processing facilities.

Access to Improved Seeds and Fertilizers

Farmers attending the fair will have the chance to explore an array of improved seeds and fertilizers. Government and private seed companies will showcase high-yielding varieties, supporting farmers in selecting appropriate crops for their lands. The event will also highlight the significance of organic fertilizers and soil health management practices, with demonstrations aimed at promoting sustainable farming.

Organic Farming and Market Linkages

Highlighting the theme ‘Pure soil, Healthy crop – A golden future through natural farming’, the fair will educate farmers on organic practices and provide pathways to market their organic products. FPO-based systems will be a focal point, connecting farmers with cooperative structures and institutions to facilitate direct marketing without intermediaries. This initiative aims to secure better prices for farmers’ produce, along with introducing crop diversification models that enhance resilience in farming systems.
