Namami Gange Signs Agreement for Development of Sewage Treatment Infrastructure in Meerut
The tripartite concession agreement between the National Clean Ganges Mission (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and M/s. Meerut STP Pvt. Ltd. for the development of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and other infrastructure in Meerut was signed in the presence of the Director General of NMCG in New Delhi. The project, under Hybrid Annuity PPP mode, was awarded at the total cost of Rs. 369.74 crore and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
NMCG has approved the project to construct a wastewater treatment plant (STP) with a total capacity of 220BN, among other works such as development of intercept and diversion (I&D) facilities, laying of I&D networks, sewage pumping stations, including operation and maintenance for 15 years, etc. This project also aims to solve the existing sewage problems in the city of Meerut and the resulting sewage pollution in the Kali River. After completion of this project, there will be no more untreated sewage discharge from Meerut city into Kali River (East), thus reducing the pollutant load. Kali (east) meets Ganga near Kannauj and the completion of this project will ultimately help to reduce the pollution of River Ganga.
The agreement was signed between Shri SK Barman, Superintendent Engineer, UP Jal Nigam (Rural), Shri Mayank Agarwal, Authorized Signatory, M/s. Meerut STP Pvt. Ltd. (SPV set up by M/s GA Infra Private Limited โ in JV with M/s SSG Infratech Pvt. Ltd.) and Shri Binod Kumar, Director (Projects), NMCG attended by Shri G. Asok Kumar , Managing Director, NMCG, who expressed his happiness at completing the procurement process. Also present at the signing ceremony was Shri Nalin Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Director General of the NMCG, along with other representatives of the state agencies and the concessionaire.
