Maharashtra Prepares for WAVES 2027 with High-Level Meeting
Mumbai played host to a significant meeting today, as a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, led by Secretary Shri Chanchal Kumar, met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis. This preliminary meeting focused on the preparations for the second edition of the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) slated for 2027.
Reflecting on the inaugural edition held in May 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, CM Fadnavis highlighted its success. He noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has emphasized the ambition of elevating WAVES to an even more prominent global platform, showcasing films, music, gaming, animation, and storytelling. Fadnavis urged both the Central and Maharashtra governments to collaborate closely to ensure that the upcoming summit achieves even greater success.
Key Initiatives Discussed
During the meeting, Secretary Chanchal Kumar outlined the key initiatives and preparations for WAVES 2027. This summit aims to foster collaboration among artists and creators worldwide, building on the momentum from the previous year.
Meeting Highlights
In attendance were several senior officials from both the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Maharashtra government. This included CEO of Prasar Bharati Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, Additional Secretary Shri Prabhat, and Joint Secretary (Broadcasting) Shri Prithul Kumar, among others. On the Maharashtra side, key figures such as Chief Secretary Shri Rajesh Aggarwal and BMC Commissioner Ms. Ashwini Bhide were present, symbolizing a united front in preparation for the event.
Review Meeting and Venue Assessment
Before meeting the Chief Minister, Secretary Chanchal Kumar conducted a review session with senior officials to assess the ongoing preparations for WAVES 2027. Following this, the delegation visited the Jio World Convention Centre at Bandra Kurla Complex, the venue that successfully hosted the inaugural WAVES in 2025 and is being considered for the upcoming summit.
The collaborative effort reflects a strong commitment to making WAVES 2027 a landmark event that strengthens India’s position in the global entertainment and audiovisual industry.
