LAUNCH OF ‘DSC A 20 (YARD 325)’ FIRST SHIP OF 05 x DIVING SUPPORT CRAFT (DSC) PROJECT 31 AUG 23 AT M/S TITAGARH RAIL SYSTEMS (TRSL), KOLKATA

DSC A20(Yard 325), the first vessel of Project Five (05) Diving Support Craft (DSC) under construction by M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), Calcutta (formerly known as M/s Titagarh Wagons Ltd (TWL) ) for the Indian Navy, the 31 August 23 at Titagarh, Calcutta (WB) on the Hooghly River. The launch ceremony was presided over by VAmm Sanjay Mahindru, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (DCNS). In line with naval tradition, Mrs Aradhana Mahindu launched the ship with the invocation from Atharva Veda.

The contract for construction of five (05) Diving Support Craft (DSC) was signed between the Ministry of Defense and M/s Titagarh Wagons Ltd (TWL), Kolkata, on 12 Feb 21. These ships are designed to take on operational/training underwater operations in ports and coastal waters. They they are ships with a catamaran hull of 30 meters in length, with a displacement of about 300 tons. All five (05) DSCs are expected to be delivered to the Indian Navy in fiscal year 2024-25.

DSC is equipped with state-of-the-art diving equipment and instruments to perform diving operations. These vessels are designed in-house and built to relevant naval standards and Indian Shipping Register (IRS) regulation. Hydrodynamic analysis and ship model tests during the design phase were conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam. With most of the main and ancillary equipment supplied by indigenous manufacturers, these vessels are the proud standard-bearers Produce in India AND Make for the world Government of India (GoI)/Ministry of Defense (MoD) initiatives.

Keel of the 5th and the last Diving Support Craft (DSC), i.e. DSC A 24, was laid down together with the launch of 1st SDC by Chief Guest VA Adm Sanjay MahindruDCNS, signifying the simultaneous construction of all five DSCs for the Indian Navy.
