iPhone Users Set to Receive New Features in Upcoming iOS Update
Apple has unveiled the first beta version of iOS 26.2, introducing a range of exciting features aimed at enhancing user experience across its core applications. This update brings significant improvements to Reminders, Music, Podcasts, and News, while also refining functionalities for Apple Watch users and expanding customization options introduced in the previous version. With the rollout expected in mid-December, users can look forward to smarter reminders, offline music lyrics, and a revamped Apple News interface.
One of the standout features in iOS 26.2 is the addition of an “Urgent” option in the Reminders app. This new functionality allows users to mark tasks as urgent, triggering alerts when deadlines approach. This enhancement aims to help users manage their schedules more effectively and avoid missing critical tasks.
In addition to the Reminders upgrade, Apple Music has also received a significant boost. Users can now access song lyrics offline, enabling them to view synced, translated, and beat-by-beat lyrics without needing an internet connection. This feature is particularly beneficial for those traveling on long flights or in areas with unreliable network coverage, making music listening more enjoyable and accessible.
Innovative Changes to Apple Podcasts
The iOS 26.2 update introduces AI-generated chapters to Apple Podcasts, which automatically segments episodes into distinct sections when creators do not provide their own. This feature enhances the listening experience by allowing users to navigate through episodes more easily. Additionally, a new Podcast Mentions feature highlights shows referenced during episodes, enabling listeners to follow these shows directly from the player or transcript.
These updates reflect Apple’s commitment to improving user engagement and accessibility within its podcasting platform, making it easier for users to discover and enjoy new content.
Revised Sleep Score and Apple News Redesign
In conjunction with watchOS 26.2, Apple has recalibrated the Sleep Score feature, responding to user feedback that previous scores were too lenient. The updated grading scale means that users may receive lower scores for the same quality of sleep, with the “Very High” category now requiring a score of 96 to 100 points. This adjustment aims to provide a more accurate assessment of sleep quality.
Moreover, Apple News has undergone a redesign to enhance navigation. The update introduces dedicated quick-access buttons for categories such as Sports, Puzzles, Politics, and Food. A new Following tab consolidates users’ favorite stories and reading history, while the Search tab has been simplified to improve content discovery.
EU-Specific Features and Customization Options
For users in the European Union, iOS 26.2 brings the long-awaited Live Translation feature via AirPods, which had been delayed due to regulatory issues. However, the update also removes Wi-Fi syncing between iPhones and Apple Watches, requiring users to manually enter network information on both devices to comply with interoperability rules.
Additionally, the update enhances customization options with a new Lock Screen slider for Liquid Glass, allowing users to adjust the clock’s transparency beyond previous settings. A new Enhanced Safety Alerts menu has also been introduced, providing controls for earthquake warnings, threat alerts, and optional location sharing to improve accuracy.
Other minor features include table support in Freeform, new exclusions for websites in the Passwords app, and a “Flash to Alerts” accessibility option. As iOS 26.2 remains in beta, users can anticipate its wider release in mid-December.
