iOS 19 Set for Major Visual Transformation

Apple is gearing up to unveil iOS 19, the successor to iOS 18, at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, scheduled for June 9. According to seasoned journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the new operating system will introduce a significant visual overhaul aimed at creating a more cohesive user experience across various Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. This update promises to minimize visual inconsistencies and enhance the overall interface.

Visual Overhaul Coming to iOS 19

During a recent Q&A session with Tim Stenovec on Bloomberg Businessweek Daily, Gurman revealed that iOS 19 will represent the most substantial redesign since the launch of iOS 7 in 2013. The new operating system is expected to incorporate user interface (UI) elements similar to those found in visionOS, which powers the Apple Vision Pro headset. This shift aims to unify the visual experience across Apple’s ecosystem.

One of the anticipated features includes glass effects integrated throughout the UI. Although these effects were initially expected to debut with iOS 18, the update focused more on enhancing Apple Intelligence features instead. Now, Apple appears ready to prioritize visual elements in iOS 19, aiming for a more consistent experience across its devices.

Gurman noted that the upcoming update will address discrepancies in system actions, such as hamburger menus, menu buttons, and application closing buttons. The company plans to rework several applications to help new users better navigate their devices. While specific applications that will receive updates remain undisclosed, it is likely that core apps will align visually with other operating systems.

Home Screen Redesign and Icon Changes

Reports suggest that iOS 19 may introduce a redesigned home screen featuring round icons, replacing the traditional rounded square iconography that Apple has utilized for years. This change is expected to mirror the design elements seen in visionOS, further emphasizing the update’s focus on visual transformation rather than introducing a plethora of new features. As Apple prepares for this significant update, users can anticipate a fresh look and feel for their devices. The emphasis on visual consistency across the Apple ecosystem is likely to enhance usability and streamline the user experience. With WWDC 2025 just around the corner, excitement is building for what promises to be a landmark release in Apple’s software history.
