Indo-German Environmental Forum to Focus on Resilience and Sustainability

On September 1, 2026, New Delhi will host the 4th Indo-German Environmental Forum, co-chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, and German Minister for Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, H.E. Carsten Schneider. The theme for this year’s forum is ‘Together For More Resilience’, highlighting the commitment of both nations to tackle pressing environmental challenges collaboratively.

The Indo-German Environmental Forum stands as the foremost bilateral platform for environmental dialogue between India and Germany, dating back to 2008. This meeting is organized by India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUKN), in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and various Indian industry associations.

During this forum, Shri Yadav and H.E. Schneider will address critical aspects of environmental protection and climate policy. The discussions aim to deepen bilateral cooperation, facilitating experience exchange and enhancing practical collaboration. The forum will encompass thematic sessions tackling vital topics such as Low-Carbon Industries, Biodiversity in Wetlands, Mountains and Forests, Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy as a Business Model, as well as Sustainable Finance, Green Skills, and Investment Mobilization.

This impactful forum will serve as a platform for dialogue among policymakers, representatives from the private sector, think tanks, and other key stakeholders engaged in environmental and climate initiatives between both countries. Participation will include experts from various ministries, businesses, and non-governmental organizations.

In preparation for the upcoming forum, three Joint Working Groups focusing on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Circular Economy convened earlier this year. These groups exchanged discussions on their progress and identified areas of mutual interest, setting the stage for informed dialogues during the forum.

The importance of this forum is underscored by the robust economic and industrial ties between India and Germany, promising avenues for more profound cooperation in sustainable technologies and the green economy. The collaborative efforts exhibit a shared commitment to advancing environmental initiatives, vital for future generations.
