India’s Startup Ecosystem Flourishes at RISE Conclave 2026
At the RISE Conclave 2026 held in Bengaluru under the theme “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Driven Growth for Viksit Bharat 2047,” Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored the monumental growth of India’s startup ecosystem. Over the past decade, the startup movement has generated approximately 2.4 to 2.5 million jobs, rising from a mere 350–400 startups ten years ago to nearly 230,000 today. This remarkable evolution has positioned India as the third-largest startup ecosystem globally, showcasing its transition into a vibrant innovation economy.
Leadership Drives Growth in Innovation
Dr. Singh attributed a significant portion of this transformation to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the “Startup India” initiative launched in 2015 laid a strong foundation for a thriving entrepreneurial culture. The government’s continuous reforms have attracted private investment in key sectors, inspiring young Indians to embark on careers driven by innovation. With this supportive environment, India is now poised to leverage its demographic dividend and emerge as a global leader in innovation.
RISE Conclave: A Platform for Collaboration
The RISE Conclave serves as a critical platform uniting the key pillars of Research, Industry, Startups, and Entrepreneurship. Dr. Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships among scientists, businesses, investors, academic institutions, and policymakers to create a self-reliant and innovation-led India.
Aerospace Innovation and Future Prospects
Focusing on the burgeoning aerospace sector, Dr. Singh highlighted the success of mach33.aero, India’s first public-private aerospace incubation center, which has been operational for five years and has incubated 34 startups. At the RISE Conclave, over 125 startups, many from the aerospace sector, showcased their innovations. Dr. Singh expressed optimism that these collaborations would generate wealth, create jobs, and potentially lead to a new wave of unicorn startups.
Entrepreneurship Beyond Metropolises
Dr. Singh also noted a shift in the entrepreneurial landscape, with more than 50% of new startups emerging from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This change indicates that opportunities are accessible to passionate individuals regardless of their location or formal educational background.
Scientific Advancements and Global Standing
The Minister pointed out India’s significant advancements in sectors previously underexplored, such as space, biotechnology, and nuclear energy. With increasing private sector involvement, India’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index has improved considerably, alongside rising patent filings and a growing share of Indian research in international publications.
Looking Ahead
Dr. Singh discussed the progress made under national missions aimed at emerging technologies, such as the National Quantum Mission, which has achieved several milestones ahead of schedule. He emphasized that the success of the RISE Conclave should be evaluated based on tangible outcomes, including technology licensing, job creation, and industry partnerships.
The conclave featured discussions on innovative themes like Aerospace Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and Agri-Food innovation while fostering interactions between startups, MSMEs, investors, and academia. Dr. Singh concluded by asserting that the path to Viksit Bharat 2047 is through the collaborative efforts of laboratories, industries, and the entrepreneurial spirit of India’s youth, driving science, technology, and innovation forward.
