Indian Railways Expands Kavach Safety System in Ambala Division
In a significant move to boost railway safety, Indian Railways has greenlit the installation of the Kavach system across the remaining Broad Gauge sections of the Ambala Division within the Northern Railway network. This ambitious initiative encompasses 811 route kilometres and comes with a budget allocation of ₹201 crore. The project is part of a broader effort to implement Kavach with an LTE-based communication framework across various routes within Indian Railways.
Key Routes Enhanced by Kavach Installation
The approved project will enhance critical rail corridors in the Ambala Division, which include major routes such as Ambala Cantonment–Ludhiana, Kalka–Chandigarh–New Morinda–Sahnewal, Sirhind–Daulatpur Chowk, Rajpura–Bathinda–Shri Ganganagar, and Ludhiana–Dhuri–Jakhal sections. Together, these routes facilitate vital connections between the states of Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, supporting substantial passenger and freight traffic.
Enhancing Safety with Kavach Technology
Kavach is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system that significantly enhances operational safety. It is designed to prevent incidents such as Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), applying brakes automatically when necessary to avert hazardous situations. Additionally, Kavach is adept at controlling train speed during critical scenarios and greatly diminishes the likelihood of collisions.
Continued Commitment to Safety and Reliability
The expansion of Kavach throughout the Indian Railways network reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to improving safety, reliability, and operational capacity on key routes. By modernizing its systems and infrastructure, Indian Railways aims to enhance the overall travel experience for millions of passengers while ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across the region.
