Indian Naval Ships Complete Successful Port Call in Vietnam

Indian Naval Ships Udaygiri and Kavaratti, under the leadership of Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF), set sail from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on June 24, 2026. This departure marks the conclusion of their port call and signals their continued deployment in the South East Asia region.

During their visit, FOCEF engaged with senior officials from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Vietnam People’s Navy. These discussions centered on enhancing maritime cooperation, fostering professional relationships, and ensuring regional maritime security. A significant moment of the visit included a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, where FOCEF, alongside the Commanding Officers of INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti, honored the lasting legacy of this influential leader.

Strengthening Naval Ties

Personnel from both the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy participated in several professional interactions and bilateral exercises during the port call. These activities not only provided a platform for exchanging operational experiences but also affirmed their shared commitment to maritime security and the safety of international waters. In celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga, a joint yoga session was held onboard INS Kavaratti, further showcasing the cooperative spirit between the two nations.

Diplomatic Engagements

The visit also included an onboard hosting of the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, alongside representatives from the Vietnam People’s Navy and prominent members of the diplomatic community. These interactions helped strengthen ties and foster mutual understanding between the two countries.

An Enhanced Partnership

India and Vietnam maintain an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, built on trust and shared interests, along with strong people-to-people connections. This port call underscores the Indian government’s Act East Policy and the vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions). It reflects India’s ongoing dedication to constructive maritime engagement and cooperation with friendly nations in the region.
