Indian Armed Forces Join Seychelles for Joint Military Exercise LAMITIYE-2026

An Indian Armed Forces contingent has arrived in Seychelles to take part in the Eleventh edition of the Joint Military Exercise, known as ‘LAMITIYE-2026’, alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). This significant event will take place at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to March 20, 2026. The term ‘LAMITIYE’ translates to ‘Friendship’ in Creole and symbolizes the collaborative spirit of this biennial exercise, which has been held in Seychelles since its inception in 2001.

This year’s exercise is particularly noteworthy as it will feature the full participation of all three branches of the Indian Armed Forces. The contingent includes members from the ASSAM Regiment and features assets from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, including the advanced frigate INS Trikand and a C-130 aircraft.

Focus on Peacekeeping and Tactical Cooperation

The primary goal of the LAMITIYE-2026 exercise is to enhance cooperation and interoperability between Indian and Seychellois forces, particularly in the domain of Sub-conventional Operations in Semi-Urban environments. The joint training is expected to foster strong military ties while allowing both sides to exchange valuable skills and experiences.

During this 12-day event, participants will engage in various tactical drills designed to neutralize potential threats unique to semi-urban settings. The exercise will feature the use of New Generation Equipment and technology, allowing both forces to showcase their capabilities.

Training Activities and Validation

The exercises will include Field Training Exercises, combat discussions, case studies, lectures, and demonstrations, which will all culminate in a two-day Validation Exercise. These activities aim to solidify mutual understanding and enhance joint operational effectiveness between the Indian and Seychelles forces.

As LAMITIYE-2026 unfolds, it is anticipated that this collaborative effort will significantly strengthen military relations and operational readiness between India and Seychelles, further promoting peace and stability in the region.
