India Showcases Tourism Potential at FITUR 2025

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, recently participated in the prestigious IFEMA travel fair held in Madrid, Spain. This event, known as FITUR, took place from January 22 to January 26, 2025. It serves as a significant platform for tourism professionals and is a key event for inbound and outbound markets in Ibero-America. The Indian delegation aimed to position India as a leading destination for travelers from Spain and Latin America.
Incredible India Pavilion Inauguration
The Incredible India pavilion was inaugurated by H.E. Shri Dinesh K. Patnaik, the Ambassador of India to Spain. This event took place on January 22, 2025, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, various state governments, and co-exhibitors. The Indian delegation included over 23 co-exhibitors, representing states like Karnataka, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Each state showcased its unique tourism products and experiences under the Incredible India banner. This exhibition provided an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to network and connect with potential clients and partners in the Spanish market.
The pavilion was designed to attract attention and highlight India’s diverse offerings. It featured various tourism products, from cultural experiences to adventure tourism. The presence of state representatives allowed for a more localized approach, showcasing the unique attractions each state has to offer. This initiative aimed to strengthen India’s position as a prime destination for international travelers.
Showcasing India’s Rich Heritage
The India Pavilion at FITUR highlighted the country’s rich cultural and natural heritage. Visitors were introduced to renowned museums, wildlife sanctuaries, and spiritual destinations. The pavilion also showcased India’s vibrant dance forms, which reflect the country’s diverse culture. One of the key highlights was the emphasis on the Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. This event underscores the tourism potential of Prayagraj as a significant spiritual and cultural destination.
Spain ranks among the top 20 tourist-generating markets for inbound tourism to India. In 2023, approximately 70,000 Spanish tourists visited India, nearly doubling the numbers from the previous year. This growing interest in India as a travel destination reflects the country’s appeal and the effectiveness of initiatives like the Incredible India campaign. The year 2026 will be particularly significant, marking the Dual Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Spain.
Promoting the Chalo India Initiative
In addition to showcasing its tourism offerings, the Ministry of Tourism launched the ‘Chalo India Initiative’ to encourage the Indian diaspora to act as ambassadors for Incredible India. This initiative invites members of the Indian diaspora to register on the Chalo India portal at www.chaloindia.gov.in. Upon registration, they receive a unique referral code, which they can share with five non-Indian friends. This code allows their friends to travel to India and explore its diverse experiences.
The Chalo India Initiative aims to leverage the connections of the Indian diaspora to promote tourism. By encouraging them to share their experiences and invite friends, the initiative seeks to increase awareness of India’s cultural richness and tourism potential. This grassroots approach can significantly impact India’s tourism sector, fostering a deeper understanding of the country’s offerings among potential travelers.
