India Showcases Cybersecurity Expertise to International Journalists

On December 12, 2025, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), organized an informative cybersecurity session for journalists visiting from Europe, America, and Central Asia. This event, held in New Delhi, aimed to familiarize international media with India’s cybersecurity advancements and strategies.
Insightful Discussions Led by Experts
The session was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Bahl, the Director General of CERT-In and Controller of Certifying Authorities at MeitY. Shri Krishan Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary at MeitY, commenced the event by welcoming the delegation and stressing the ministry’s various initiatives, including the upcoming India AI Impact Summit.
CERT-In’s Role and the Future of Cybersecurity
During his address, Dr. Bahl elaborated on CERT-In’s critical role in cybersecurity and crisis management. He touched upon the organization’s functions, including vulnerability assessments, coordinated responses to cyber incidents, and training programs. Dr. Bahl emphasized the importance of research collaborations and public-private partnerships in building a resilient cyber defense system aligned with India’s Digital India vision.
Highlighting India’s rapid rise as a global cybersecurity hub, he noted the presence of over 400 startups and a skilled workforce of more than 650,000 professionals, contributing to a burgeoning $20 billion cybersecurity industry. These ventures are creating innovative solutions for threat detection and cyber forensics while developing AI-based monitoring systems to enhance India’s digital security.
Addressing Evolving Cyber Threats
Dr. Bahl pointed out that the increasing significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses a dual challenge, serving as a tool for both defenders and cybercriminals. He explained how CERT-In utilizes AI-driven analytics to detect and respond to cyber threats in real time, as well as to formulate defenses against AI-enabled attacks.
The journalists were informed about CERT-In’s ongoing drills and capacity-building efforts. They discussed international collaborations, including a partnership with the National Cybersecurity Agency for France (ANSSI), which led to a joint high-level report on AI risk assessments titled ‘Building Trust in AI through a Cyber Risk-Based Approach.’ The delegation learned about initiatives designed to bolster cybersecurity resilience in Indian cooperative banks and protect citizens from malware and bot-related threats, as highlighted in the World Economic Forum’s Global Cybersecurity Outlook report from January 2025.
Engaging Q&A Session
Concluding the session, Shri Krishan Kumar Singh provided details on the IndiaAI mission, the upcoming AI Impact Summit in February 2026, and policy initiatives supporting homegrown cybersecurity innovations. The event wrapped up with an engaging Q&A session, where participants exchanged views on cross-border cooperation in cyber incident management and information sharing.
