India Sets New Guinness Record for Live Yoga Viewership
In a remarkable achievement ahead of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the Ministry of Ayush has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the most viewers of a YouTube live yoga stream. A staggering 435,831 participants tuned in to a special global online yoga session, accessible through the Ministry’s official YouTube channel. This significant milestone marks an increase of 189,579 viewers over the previous record of 246,252 set in 2024.
The event served as a prominent highlight of the Ministry’s outreach activities in preparation for IDY 2026, showcasing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). It emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to integrating yoga into daily life through the initiative known as ‘Yoga 365’. Participants included yoga enthusiasts, students, professionals, and wellness advocates from across India and around the globe.
During the celebration, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Ayush, addressed the attendees and praised their collective effort in achieving this historic record. He stated, “Today’s achievement demonstrates the extraordinary power of yoga to connect people across regions, cultures, and nations through a shared commitment to health and well-being. This new Guinness World Record reflects the growing global acceptance of yoga as a way of life and reinforces our collective resolve to make yoga an integral part of daily living.”
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that this accomplishment extends beyond mere numbers. He highlighted that the record showcases yoga’s significance as a key component in promoting health and wellness. Kotecha encouraged all individuals to adopt yoga as a lifelong practice, not just as a one-day event.
Special messages were delivered during the program by various dignitaries, including Mukesh Mahaling, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Odisha; Shri Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs; and Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. They all applauded the participants and underscored yoga’s importance as a preventive healthcare tool, urging citizens to integrate the teachings of yoga into their daily lives.
The event was orchestrated by the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) and several partner organizations. With expert guidance provided by the Habuild team, participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol together, creating a sense of unity and shared purpose.
As the world gears up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2026 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the Ministry expressed its gratitude to everyone involved—from yoga institutions to the global Indian diaspora. The main festivities will take place in Kolkata, West Bengal, on June 21, bringing together yoga practitioners and enthusiasts in a collective show of support for health and well-being.
The Ministry concluded by encouraging all citizens to make yoga a way of life, promoting the message “Har Ghar Yoga, Har Din Yoga.”
