India Launches AIR SUVIDHA 2.0 Amid Ebola Concerns
The Ministry of Civil Aviation, in partnership with Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), has unveiled AIR SUVIDHA 2.0, an upgraded contactless Passenger Health Self-Declaration Portal. This initiative aims to bolster public health surveillance at various Points of Entry, reacting to the recent outbreaks of the Ebola disease in Africa.
The announcement comes on the heels of the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the Ebola/Bundibugyo virus disease outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) as of May 17, 2026. The ongoing outbreak has been identified as Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD), prompting heightened vigilance in nations bordering these affected regions, including South Sudan, which the WHO has classified as high-risk for Ebola transmission.
Designed collaboratively with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, this innovative portal allows international travelers to fulfill a mandatory online Health Self-Declaration. This declaration requires passengers to provide their travel history over the past 21 days, any exposure history, and any related symptoms before they can clear immigration. The system facilitates real-time data sharing with the Airport Health Officer, Bureau of Immigration, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), and State Surveillance Officers, ensuring quick identification and referral of travelers at risk, all while making the arrival experience smooth and contactless.
Travelers can complete the Self-Declaration Form (SDF) up to 24 hours before arriving in India. It is highly encouraged that passengers fill out this form before boarding their flights during web check-in to expedite the clearance process upon arrival. Upon landing, they will only need to present the downloaded SDF at the International Travel Health Desk or immigration counter.
All international travelers are urged to complete their Self-Declaration forms accurately and ahead of time. This proactive approach serves the dual purpose of ensuring passenger safety and promoting public health.
