India and France Launch Bharat Innovates 2026 to Boost Deep Tech
In a landmark event that underscores the growing collaboration between India and France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the inaugural edition of Bharat Innovates 2026 at the Palais des Expositions de Nice, France. This significant initiative, implemented by the Government of India through the Ministry of Education, aims to enhance innovation-led partnerships between India’s deep technology innovators and global entities.
Showcasing India’s Innovation Ecosystem
The Bharat Innovates 2026 event highlights the rapid evolution of India’s innovation ecosystem. Featuring 120 Indian innovators, over 15 premier Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and more than 500 global stakeholders—including leading CEOs, industry experts, and venture capital firms—it shines a spotlight on advancements across 13 crucial sectors. These sectors span advanced computing, semiconductors, space technology, biotechnology, energy, healthcare, and manufacturing.
Insights and Collaboration
The first day of the event was packed with intriguing keynote addresses, strategic dialogues, and discussions aimed at building international relationships in innovation. A highlight was the opening address by N. R. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, who discussed the pivotal role of academic institutions in nurturing globally competitive technological firms. He reflected on the evolution of Infosys from a fledgling idea to a respected global institution, emphasizing the importance of complementary talent and shared values in creating successful enterprises.
Partnership Agreements Signed
During the event, over 30 partnerships were signed, including innovation-focused Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and joint declarations aimed at fostering collaboration between Indian and international innovation ecosystems. Among these, 12 agreements were established between Indian HEIs and French/global incubators to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, research collaboration, and startup incubation. Additionally, leading global corporations signed 16 agreements with Indian innovators to enhance technology development, commercialization, and market access.
Academic Collaborations and Innovation Labs
The event also witnessed 13 French universities entering into partnership agreements with 11 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). These agreements are set to bolster cooperation in student exchanges, joint research, innovation support, and talent development. The India-France ATL Bridge, a collaboration spearheaded by the Atal Innovation Mission and La Foundation Dassault Systèmes, aims to extend India’s Atal Tinkering Lab framework to France by establishing the first School Innovation Lab in the country.
AI for Global Good
A panel discussion on “AI for Global Good” brought together industry leaders and researchers to discuss responsible artificial intelligence and sovereign technology development. The conversation emphasized the need for joint R&D initiatives and investment partnerships, advocating for an inclusive and scalable AI ecosystem. Sessions like “Deep Tech Without Borders” and “Global Deep-Tech Capital Corridors” explored commercialization pathways and cross-border innovation practices.
With significant participation from industry and policy leaders, Day One of Bharat Innovates 2026 marked a pivotal moment for deeper engagement within the global innovation landscape.
