Government Approves Major Highway Projects Worth Rs 11,000 Crore in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana

The Indian government has approved a series of highway projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and freight movement across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) sanctioned these initiatives, which include road widening, rehabilitation, and the construction of new four-lane stretches. This significant investment is expected to bolster regional infrastructure and improve logistics efficiency in these states.

Major Upgrade for NH-160A in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, the CCEA has greenlit the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Ghoti–Trimbak (Mokhada)–Jawhar–Manor–Palghar stretch of National Highway-160A. This extensive project spans 154.635 kilometers and comes with a capital cost of Rs 3,320.38 crore. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will execute the work under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. The area west of Nashik, particularly Ambad and Satpur, is home to a dense cluster of industrial units established by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, resulting in significant freight traffic. This project aligns with the PM GatiShakti principles and aims to connect six PM GatiShakti Economic Nodes, one Social Node, and eight Logistics Nodes in Maharashtra. MoRTH anticipates that this development will positively influence the country’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI).

Rs 4,583 Crore Four-Laning Project in Gujarat

In Gujarat, the CCEA has approved the construction of four-lane sections between Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi and Nasarpore-Malotha, with a total cost of Rs 4,583.64 crore. This 107.67-kilometer stretch is part of National Highway-56, which begins at Nimbahera in Rajasthan and traverses through Dahod district in Gujarat, Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh, before re-entering Gujarat near Chhota Udepur district and concluding at its junction with NH-48 near Vapi. Designed for a speed of 100 km per hour, the project is expected to reduce travel time by 40 percent, cutting the journey from 2.5 hours to just 1.5 hours. This improvement is anticipated to enhance the overall travel experience for commuters and freight transporters alike.

NH-167 Widening Cleared in Telangana

The government has also approved the widening of National Highway-167 in Telangana, with a total capital cost of Rs 3,175.08 crore. This 80.01-kilometer project will upgrade the Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar stretch on the Hyderabad–Panaji Economic Corridor to a four-lane standard. The work will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) through the National Highways (Original) [NH(O)] scheme. MoRTH states that this upgrade aims to tackle existing infrastructure challenges and is expected to significantly benefit the Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar districts in Telangana. Collectively, these three projects are designed to enhance industrial connectivity, improve logistics efficiency, and reduce travel times across vital economic corridors in the three states.
