On June 15, World Wind Day is celebrated around the world. The event is organized jointly by GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) and Wind-Europe. The purpose of this day is to celebrate wind energy, exchange information, and educate adults and children about its potential to change the world. EWEA and GWEC organize events around the world in partnership with national wind energy associations and companies.

Jobs are also created by wind energy. Wind turbine service technicians are the second-fastest-growing occupation in the United States. Other countries are also taking advantage of these benefits in addition to the United States. China, Germany, India, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Brazil are among the top producers of wind energy worldwide.

History of Global Wind Day

In 2007, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) organized the first Wind Day. Together with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the EWEA made 2009 a worldwide event. WindEurope and the GWEC have organized this day together in recent years. In 2012, the organizations sponsored a photo contest. Participants from around the world were encouraged to submit photos that captured the theme best. Recent themes include “The Wind in Mind” and “Future Wind.”
