Giorgos Seferis (13 March 1900 – 20 September 1971) was a Greek poet and diplomat who is considered one of the most important figures in modern Greek literature. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1963. He was born on 13 March 1900, in Urla, Aidin Vilayet, Ottoman Empire. Giorgos Seferis studied law and literature at the University of Athens, where he received his degree in 1924. After completing his undergraduate studies, he continued his education with postgraduate studies in Paris and London.
