Energy Transfer and Kelcy Warren Commit Record $15 Million to Dallas Pediatric Campus
Dallas-based Energy Transfer committed $15 million on March 10, 2026, to a new $5 billion pediatric campus under construction in the city’s Southwestern Medical District, the company’s largest philanthropic contribution to date. The gift advances a joint venture between UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health.
Kelcy Warren, who co-founded Energy Transfer in 1996 as a University of Texas at Arlington graduate, built the company into the nation’s largest midstream network by total pipeline mileage. The $15 million commitment directs that scale toward the communities the company’s infrastructure serves.
A $5 Billion Campus Designed Around Children
The new campus broke ground in October 2024, directly across from UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. Designed with input from more than 300 clinicians, researchers, and architects, the 4.9-million-square-foot complex will be anchored by Moody Children’s Hospital, which will house 552 beds in three towers. Opening is set for 2031. North Texas’s pediatric population is on a long-term growth track through 2050, a demand the campus was designed to meet. In recognition of the gift, Energy Transfer’s name will carry through two family lounges and a patient floor in the new hospital.
Energy Transfer co-CEO Tom Long said: “We are honored to be able to step forward in this way to ensure that future generations of children continue to receive the best possible medical care. This donation represents our commitment to the bold vision of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health and the exceptional medical professionals here who provide hope and healing to families throughout Texas, and in many cases, across the country.”
UT Southwestern President Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., said the gift would advance work already underway. “We deeply appreciate Energy Transfer committing to our shared vision for the future of pediatric health care in Dallas. With their generous support, we will further advance care, foster hope for families, and accelerate discoveries that will benefit generations to come.”
Children’s Health President and CEO Christopher J. Durovich said: “This extraordinary commitment reflects the business community’s confidence in our shared vision. The new Dallas pediatric campus will expand access to advanced pediatric care and position us to meet the growing needs of children and families across our region.”
Kelcy Warren’s Broader Record of Dallas Philanthropy
The pediatric gift reflects a documented record of civic investment that Kelcy Warren has built over nearly three decades alongside Energy Transfer’s commercial growth. In 2012, he donated $10 million toward the creation of Klyde Warren Park, the 5.2-acre green space connecting Dallas’s Uptown and Downtown corridors, and later committed an additional $20 million to expand it. His 2023 donation of $12 million to the University of Texas at Arlington was the largest single gift in the university’s history, directed at its Resource and Energy Engineering program.
His contributions span healthcare and youth development. A member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans and the Texas Business Hall of Fame, Warren has supported MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, and the March of Dimes, among others.
Inducted into the Hart Energy Hall of Fame in 2023, Kelcy Warren occupies a position in the energy industry where professional achievement and community investment are closely linked.
Energy Transfer currently operates more than 140,000 miles of pipelines across 44 states, with nearly 900 employees in Dallas and over 16,000 worldwide. Co-CEO Mackie McCrea said: “Strengthening the communities where we work and live by addressing critical issues like health and wellness is important to us. We are proud to support the lasting impact of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health, two organizations delivering life-changing support in our hometown of Dallas.”
