The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) aims to uplift rural households in India. For instance, 4.93 crore members have joined the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), while 6.14 crore are covered under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). Additionally, 7.92 crore beneficiaries are enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) or state-specific health insurance programs.
These schemes provide essential financial protection and health coverage to rural households, which often face economic vulnerabilities. By ensuring that SHG members can access these benefits, DAY-NRLM enhances their resilience against unforeseen circumstances. Support for Micro Food Processing Enterprises
The Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME) Scheme is another significant initiative under DAY-NRLM. This scheme is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and the Ministry of Rural Development. It aims to provide seed capital to SHGs engaged in food processing activities. As of October 31, 2024, 2,51,193 SHG entrepreneurs have received seed capital amounting to Rs. 831.27 crore.
This financial support enables SHG members to establish and expand their food processing businesses.
