Empowering Justice: Regional Workshop Launches Legal Awareness Campaign

On June 15, 2026, the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice in India convened a significant Regional Workshop at the Government Degree College auditorium in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The event was part of the Tele-Law programme under the DISHA scheme and celebrated twelve years of transformative reforms in the justice sector. Attended by key stakeholders, the workshop focused on enhancing legal empowerment, improving access to justice, and raising legal awareness among citizens.

Achievements in Focus

The workshop spotlighted the major accomplishments of the Department of Justice over the past twelve years, particularly in expanding judicial infrastructure, digitizing court processes, and promoting legal aid initiatives. Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, addressed participants during the proceedings. The Secretary of the Department of Justice emphasized the importance of these reforms in making justice more accessible and efficient for all citizens, aiming to fulfill the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Launch of “Nyaya Prabodh” Campaign

Among the key highlights of the event was the launch of “Nyaya Prabodh – Awakening to Justice,” a year-long campaign designed to boost legal awareness and encourage citizens to understand their rights and responsibilities. This initiative aims to foster greater public engagement within the justice delivery ecosystem. Activities introduced under this campaign include:

  • Know Your Rights in 90 Seconds: A fast-track initiative to educate citizens on their legal rights.
  • Nyaya Quiz: An interactive platform aimed at enhancing awareness of constitutional values and citizens’ rights, especially among the youth.
  • Pro Bono Pledge: A call for legal professionals to voluntarily offer their services to underserved communities.

The workshop also featured community service experiences shared by students and faculty from the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, showcasing their Pro Bono initiatives.

Impact of Technology in Justice Delivery

Attendees viewed a poignant documentary highlighting the success of technology-enabled legal services, featuring stories from beneficiaries of the Tele-Law initiative. Live interactions with these beneficiaries demonstrated how timely legal advice through technology is bridging gaps between citizens and the justice system.

Government’s Commitment to Justice Reforms

During his address, Minister Meghwal reiterated the government’s commitment to making justice accessible, highlighting the role of initiatives like Tele-Law in reaching communities that have historically been underserved. He noted the importance of legal literacy in fulfilling constitutional mandates and recognized the efforts to modernize the justice system, including the repeal of outdated laws.

Governor Gupta reinforced the necessity of equal access to justice, particularly in remote areas, lauding the role of technology in extending legal services and urging citizens, especially the youth, to be aware of their constitutional rights.
