DRI Seizes Over 18 kg of Synthetic Drugs in Bengaluru and Pune
In a series of targeted operations against synthetic drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) disclosed the seizure of more than 18 kilograms of illegal substances in Bengaluru and Pune on August 25, 2026. These operations resulted in the arrest of four individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
The first operation took place at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, where DRI officers acted on intelligence reports to intercept an Indian woman passenger arriving from New Delhi. A thorough search of her luggage revealed seven packets containing a crystalline substance, totaling approximately 14.9 kg. Preliminary tests confirmed that the substance was Amphetamine. The officers seized the drugs along with the packing materials, adhering to the provisions of the NDPS Act.
Following this initial seizure, DRI officers quickly conducted a follow-up operation. They intercepted a man who had come to collect the baggage from the woman and arrested him. Another individual, who attempted to receive the contraband from the first suspect, was also apprehended. The swift actions of the DRI led to the detention of all three parties involved in the trafficking attempt.
In a separate operation on the same day at Pune Junction, DRI agents apprehended another Indian woman passenger. She was traveling from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi when her baggage was examined. This search uncovered 2.53 kg of a white/yellow crystalline substance believed to be Amphetamine, along with 878 grams of MDMA tablets. Like the previous case, the contraband was seized under the NDPS Act, resulting in her arrest as well.
These recent seizures highlight the DRI’s ongoing commitment to combating synthetic drug trafficking in India. Over the past two weeks alone, the agency has seized nearly 150 kg of Amphetamine Type Stimulant (ATS) drugs in five distinct operations. These includes significant finds such as 76 kg of Methamphetamine tablets confiscated along India’s northeastern borders and 55.86 kg of Methamphetamine that was cleverly disguised within a maize export consignment destined for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
