DRI Seizes 2 kg Cocaine in Surat Amid Nationwide Crackdown

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made significant strides in its ongoing battle against drug trafficking, seizing 2 kilograms of cocaine in Surat and apprehending an individual linked to the illegal operation. This seizure, conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985, marks a crucial step in the government’s effort to dismantle narcotics supply networks.

In a broader statewide initiative, DRI has executed a series of operations across multiple cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Cochin, and Ahmedabad, leading to the confiscation of approximately 26 kilograms of cocaine since last month. During these coordinated efforts, authorities have arrested 22 individuals, among them 14 foreign nationals, showcasing the international dimensions of the narcotics trade.

The illicit drugs were trafficked using various methods, including ingestion of drug-filled capsules, concealment within household items, infusion in fabrics, and hiding within luggage. These tactics highlight the lengths to which traffickers will go to evade detection.

Through these operations, DRI has maintained a strong focus on disrupting organized syndicates that engage in the trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances. This initiative is part of India’s broader vision of a _Nasha Mukt Bharat_ or Drug-Free India, demonstrating the government’s commitment to combat drug abuse and trafficking.

June 26 marks the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a day established by the United Nations in 1987 to fortify global efforts in raising awareness about the harrowing effects of substance abuse and the ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade. The recent actions by DRI reflect timely efforts that align with this global observance and reinforce the importance of collaborative action against drug-related crimes.

As the DRI continues its mission to tackle drug trafficking, it underscores not only the significance of enforcement but also the need for a comprehensive approach to drug abuse prevention and education within communities.
