DoT Opens Applications for Telecommunication Authorisations

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has officially opened the door for applications to obtain authorisations for telecommunication services, along with the option to migrate existing licenses to the new regulatory framework outlined in the Telecommunications Act, 2023. This significant move allows service providers to adapt to updated standards while embracing the growing digital landscape.

This announcement comes after the DoT notified new telecommunication rules aimed at streamlining authorisations for service provisions, as well as migration processes for existing licenses. The rules were officially announced on June 23, 2026, marking a pivotal moment in the sector’s evolution.

The implementation of these rules emphasizes a “digital by design” approach, ensuring that processes remain modern and efficient. To aid applicants, the DoT has activated online application modules for both new authorisations and license migrations. Interested parties can now easily submit their applications through the “Telecom eServices Portal,” accessible at this link.

Suspension of New Applications Lifted

It’s noteworthy that prior to this announcement, the DoT had put a temporary hold on accepting new applications for various telecommunication licenses, including Unified Licenses and Permissions. This suspension started on November 10, 2025, and was implemented as an interim measure pending the establishment of the new authorisation framework.

Now that the application process has reopened, stakeholders in the telecommunications sector are encouraged to take action and apply online. This not only aims to enhance service delivery but also fosters competition and innovation within the industry.

The Department of Telecommunications continues to prioritize digital advancements, ensuring that telecom services in the country are robust and future-ready. For more updates and information, the DoT invites interested individuals to follow their official channels across various social media platforms including X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
