Digital Education Expands in Kathua’s SC-Dominated Villages
Dramatic improvements in digital education are taking root in District Kathua, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY). The program has launched several Smart Classrooms in Government Schools situated in villages primarily inhabited by Scheduled Castes (SC). This initiative is playing a crucial role in narrowing the digital divide in these rural and border areas.
In the 2022-23 fiscal year, a total of seven Smart Classrooms were successfully set up across various Government Schools located in SC-dominated villages. Notable locations include Chack Chabba and Chack Nathal, both near the International Border, along with Village Sandhi, which is situated in the remote Bani sub-division. Each Smart Classroom is equipped with modern Interactive Touch Panels, new student furniture, and vital civil works, including vibrant wall paintings designed to create a child-friendly environment and improved electrification.
Expansion of Smart Classrooms
Following the initial establishment, the commitment to enhancing digital education continues with the addition of four more Smart Classrooms during the 2023-24 period. By 2025-26, another three Smart Classrooms will further strengthen the outreach of this digital education initiative within the district. This phased approach reflects a sustained effort to provide quality educational resources to underserved areas.
Transforming Learning Experiences
The introduction of Smart Classrooms is fundamentally transforming the educational landscape for students in these rural and isolated regions. Access to modern teaching aids such as audio-visual content and interactive learning experiences—previously found only in more costly private institutions—is now available in Government Schools. For many students from these areas, the shift towards digital learning represents the fulfillment of what was once just an aspiration. With the integration of advanced technology in the classroom, learners are enjoying heightened engagement, increased conceptual understanding, and improved academic performance.
