CSK Files Complaint with BCCI Over RCB’s ‘Dosa Idli’ Song at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially filed a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) following their IPL 2026 match on April 5 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The complaint raises concerns about inappropriate in-stadium entertainment and alleged harassment of CSK fans. A particular song played during the match, which included references to “dosa, idli, sambar, chutney,” was perceived by CSK as a mockery of their Tamil Nadu identity. This incident adds to the ongoing tensions between the two franchises, especially as RCB has secured four consecutive victories against CSK.

CSK’s Complaint Details

CSK’s managing director, Kasi Viswanathan, expressed serious concerns regarding the atmosphere at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He noted that the DJs are typically there to support the home team, but the situation felt different during this match. Viswanathan stated that certain comments directed at CSK players were inappropriate, prompting the franchise to reach out to the BCCI for an investigation. The song in question, which has become associated with the rivalry, was originally created by musician Gana Appu. It gained notoriety last year when RCB shared a video of wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma singing it, which upset many CSK fans.

During a previous match in Chennai, CSK’s DJ played the same song when Jitesh was dismissed, leading to CSK management issuing directives to avoid any remarks targeting opposing players or fans. Viswanathan emphasized that since those instructions were implemented, there had been no further incidents—until now. CSK’s recent complaint highlights that similar lines were crossed during the April 5 match, with the team management specifically objecting to comments made by the stadium DJ after CSK players were dismissed.

Match Performance Overview

On the field, RCB showcased a commanding performance, defeating CSK by 43 runs in a high-scoring match. RCB batted first and set a formidable target of 250 runs for CSK, largely thanks to Tim David’s explosive unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls. Alongside captain Rajat Patidar, David contributed to a significant late-game surge, adding 99 runs in the final overs and dismantling CSK’s bowling lineup. Earlier, solid contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (50) and Phil Salt (46) helped RCB build a strong foundation, with the team scoring an impressive 97 runs in the last five overs.

In response, CSK struggled to keep pace with the required run rate, losing crucial wickets early in the powerplay. Despite valiant efforts from Sarfaraz Khan (50), Prashant Veer (43), and Jamie Overton (37), CSK was ultimately bowled out for 207 runs in 19.4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led RCB’s bowling attack with three wickets, while the team’s disciplined performance ensured that CSK could not reach the target.

Rivalry Intensifies

The ongoing rivalry between CSK and RCB has reached new heights, particularly with RCB’s recent success against CSK. The complaint filed by CSK adds a layer of complexity to this fierce competition, as both teams and their fanbases become increasingly invested in the outcomes of their encounters. The allegations of misconduct and the contentious atmosphere at the Chinnaswamy Stadium have sparked discussions about the role of in-stadium entertainment and the responsibilities of DJs during matches. As the IPL season progresses, the focus will remain on how these issues are addressed and whether they will impact future matches between these two storied franchises.
