Chief Election Commissioner Engages with UP Booth Level Officers

In a significant gathering aimed at strengthening the electoral process, Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Gyanesh Kumar, met with over 500 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 30 BLO Supervisors from across Uttar Pradesh today in Lucknow. This interaction emphasized the crucial role that BLOs play in upholding the democratic framework of the country.

During his inaugural address, CEC Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the vital importance of BLOs as the foundational pillars of India’s democracy. He reiterated that the preparation of Electoral Rolls and the electoral process are carried out in strict adherence to the Constitution and the directives issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Kumar described the BLOs as custodians of trust and transparency within the electoral framework, serving as the first point of contact for citizens with the ECI. He praised the efforts of UP’s BLOs in the meticulous preparation of the Electoral Rolls, noting how essential their work is for a free and fair electoral process.

In a noteworthy update, the CEC reported that following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Rolls completed in April, more than 13.39 crore electors have now been included in the final Electoral Roll for Uttar Pradesh. This significant achievement was made possible through the diligent efforts of approximately 1.77 lakh BLOs, supported by concurrent audits conducted by over 5.82 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) who were appointed by recognized political parties.

The session also featured a Question-and-Answer segment, allowing BLOs to engage directly with the CEC. This opportunity for open dialogue enabled BLOs to clarify their doubts and communicate their insights, thereby fostering a collaborative spirit within the electoral community.

This interaction exemplifies the ongoing commitment of the Election Commission to involve grassroots officials in the democratic process and ensure that every citizen’s voice is heard. As the backbone of electoral administration, BLOs continue to play an indispensable role in maintaining electoral integrity across the state.
