Life and Career

Jimmy Carter was born on 1 October 1924, in Plains, Georgia, USA. He grew up in a rural farming community and attended local schools.

Carter attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1946 with a degree in naval science.

After graduating from the Naval Academy, Carter served as a naval officer for seven years, including during the Korean War. He later resigned his commission to return to Georgia after his father’s death to take over the family peanut farming business.

Carter began his political career as a state senator in Georgia in the early 1960s. In 1971, he became the Governor of Georgia, serving one term from 1971 to 1975.

Carter ran for the Democratic nomination for President in 1976 and won, ultimately defeating incumbent President Gerald Ford in the general election. He was inaugurated as President on 20 January 1977.

Carter’s presidency was marked by several notable accomplishments and challenges, including the Camp David Accords, which led to a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. He also established the Department of Energy and the Department of Education.

However, Carter faced numerous difficulties during his presidency, including high inflation, energy crises, and the Iranian Revolution, which led to the Iran hostage crisis.

After leaving the presidency in 1981, Carter became a prolific author, writing numerous books on various topics, including politics, foreign policy, and human rights.

He also became known for his work in international diplomacy, often involved in election monitoring and conflict resolution efforts around the world through the Carter Center, an organization he co-founded.

Jimmy Carter passed away on 30 September 1994, in Paris, France.
