CCRAS Concludes AI Internship to Boost AYUSH Research
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), operating under the Ministry of Ayush, has successfully wrapped up its innovative Internship Programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in AYUSH, which took place from December 15 to January 30. The initiative aimed to enhance the integration of information technology and data-driven methodologies within AYUSH research, garnering significant interest with 180 applications received.
From the pool of applicants, 33 students were selected following a rigorous screening process. These interns were mainly recruited from engineering colleges in and around New Delhi, providing them with valuable hands-on experience in applying AI across various fields pertinent to AYUSH systems.
Diverse Projects and Interdisciplinary Learning
Throughout the internship, participants engaged in an array of AI-driven projects. They explored applications related to medicinal plant research, bioinformatics, Prakriti assessment, medical imaging, posture detection, and even optical character recognition (OCR) of ancient manuscripts. These projects align with CCRAS’s broader mission to digitally document, generate evidence, and technologically validate traditional knowledge systems.
The program fostered an interactive learning atmosphere, merging traditional AYUSH principles with modern computational techniques. Interns benefited from mentorship provided by domain experts, which spurred innovation and encouraged critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills.
Commitment to Innovation in AYUSH
The internship reflects CCRAS’s ongoing dedication to capacity building, innovation, and institutional development. By bringing in young talent and leveraging advanced technologies, the initiative is poised to strengthen the research ecosystem around AYUSH, supporting its integration into mainstream healthcare through evidence-based, technology-enhanced methods.
Dr. Rakesh Narayan V., Officer-in-Charge (IT) at CCRAS, along with technical officers from the IT Cell, coordinated the program. The valedictory session featured remarks from Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, the Director General of CCRAS, who highlighted the significance of AI in propelling the AYUSH sector forward. He was joined by Dr. N. Srikanth, Deputy Director General (DDG), and other senior officers from the Council.
During his address, Prof. Acharya commended the interns for their contributions and stressed the need to further develop and validate the applications created during the internship. He underscored the importance of structured project implementation to scale these innovations, ensuring that the internship’s impact will resonate in future AYUSH research initiatives.
