CAQM Resource Lab and HSPCB Complete Two-Day Training Workshop and IEC Activity in Faridabad and Gurugram

In a significant move to combat air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has successfully wrapped up a two-day workshop in Faridabad, alongside an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity in Gurugram. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Raahgiri Foundation and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, aims to educate and empower local engineers and officials on sustainable road design and dust control practices. The workshop is part of a broader strategy targeting nine NCR cities to enhance air quality and promote healthier urban environments.
Workshop Highlights and Objectives
The workshop, which took place over two days, marks the fourth in a series aimed at nine key cities in the NCR, including Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida. The primary goal is to facilitate the implementation of a Standard Framework developed by CAQM for road development in these areas. On the first day in Faridabad, the CAQM Resource Lab was introduced, emphasizing its role in providing essential resources and training for local officials. The workshop served as a call to action, equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement effective solutions for reducing air pollution.
Participants included government officials, enforcement agencies, and engineers who engaged in technical sessions focused on practical exercises and issue mapping. The interactive format allowed stakeholders to learn about sustainable road design, dust abatement measures, and the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) aimed at creating cleaner, safer, and more walkable streets.
IEC Activities in Gurugram
The second day of the event featured vibrant IEC activities in Gurugram, which showcased a model street and an air quality awareness zone. This engaging “walk-shop” included art installations, games focused on air pollution mitigation, and technical insights into Haryana’s first model street. This model aims to integrate walking and cycling paths with public transport, enhance green spaces to combat dust and air pollution, and ensure universal accessibility and safety for women.
The activities were designed to raise awareness about air quality issues while demonstrating practical solutions that can be implemented in the NCR. The model street serves as a prototype for future developments, emphasizing the importance of sustainable urban planning in improving air quality.
Future Initiatives and Commitment
The two-day workshop in Haryana is part of a series of similar initiatives that have been organized in other NCR cities in recent weeks. These efforts underscore CAQM’s commitment to building capacity for air pollution abatement while collaborating closely with state governments, agencies, and local communities. The focus is on implementing practical, innovative, and citizen-centric solutions to ensure cleaner air in the region.
The CAQM Resource Lab will continue to function as a training and demonstration hub, dedicated to capacity building and the dissemination of best practices in road redevelopment and air pollution mitigation. Ongoing hands-on training and targeted IEC campaigns will further enhance awareness and engagement among individuals concerned about air quality issues.
