Canon Unveils PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V Cameras

Canon has officially launched two new cameras, the PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V, designed specifically for video creators. These innovative devices aim to enhance visual storytelling with advanced features and user-friendly designs. The PowerShot V1 is a compact point-and-shoot camera, while the EOS R50 V is a high-performance mirrorless camera capable of shooting 4K video at impressive frame rates.

Pricing Details for PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V

The Canon PowerShot V1 is priced at $899.99 in the United States, which is approximately Rs. 77,000. In contrast, the EOS R50 V starts at $649.99 for the body alone, or $849.99 when bundled with the RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens, translating to around Rs. 56,000 and Rs. 73,000 respectively. In India, the EOS R50 V with the RF-S 14-30mm lens is available for Rs. 79,995. Both cameras are set to hit the market in April 2025.

Specifications of PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V

The Canon PowerShot V1 features a redesigned grip that enhances usability for both standard and selfie shooting. It is equipped with a fixed 16-50mm f2.8-4.5 ultra-wide angle zoom lens, which covers a focal length of 17-52mm for video and 16-50mm for still photography. The camera boasts a 1.4-inch sensor capable of capturing 22.5-megapixel still images. Canon has integrated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology to improve autofocus speed and subject tracking.

Additionally, the PowerShot V1 includes a quick switch for toggling between photo and video modes, along with an integrated cooling fan to maintain optimal temperature during extended video shoots. It supports a maximum mechanical shutter speed of 1/2000 seconds and an electronic shutter speed of up to 1/16,000 seconds, allowing for still photography at rates of up to 30 frames per second.

On the other hand, the EOS R50 V is tailored for filmmakers, featuring the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology. This mirrorless camera can shoot 4K video at up to 60 frames per second with YCC 422 10bit color depth. It is compatible with the RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens, which includes a built-in power zoom. The APS-C sensor and DIGIC X image processor work together to create high-quality bokeh effects and offer five editing presets, including Canon Log 3.

Advanced Features for Creators

The EOS R50 V is packed with video-centric features, including a dedicated live streaming button, a video recording button, and a tripod screw hole for vertical shooting. It supports multiple live streaming methods such as UVC/UAC, HDMI, Camera Connect, and Live Switcher Mobile multi-camera setups. Both the PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V utilize the Canon Camera Connect app, allowing seamless integration with smartphones for high-quality video calls and live streaming on PCs via a single USB connection.
