Bharat 6G Symposium Concludes with Promises for Future Connectivity
The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026 wrapped up at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi, featuring a stirring valedictory address from Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, the Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development. Held in conjunction with the India Mobile Congress 2026, this three-day event brought together an impressive assembly of global telecom leaders, policymakers, industry professionals, academics, and researchers to map out the journey toward IMT-2030 and the future of telecommunications.
In his address, Minister Pemmasani congratulated the Bharat 6G Alliance for organizing this remarkable symposium, which included insights from over 75 speakers, among them more than 30 international experts from the telecom sector. He emphasized India’s transition from a major telecom market to a key player in telecom technology innovations.
“Our journey in developing indigenous technology highlights a vital lesson: self-reliance and global cooperation can go hand in hand,” the minister stated. He expressed the aspiration that 6G technology should not exacerbate existing digital divides but instead focus on affordability, accessibility, and extensive coverage. Minister Pemmasani noted that the integration of terrestrial and satellite networks could significantly enhance connectivity, reaching remote areas, islands, and oceans that traditional networks often overlook. “India is set to test these technologies at scale and share our findings with a global audience,” he added, reiterating a national objective of achieving a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, commemorating a century of independence.
Global Collaboration at the Forefront
Experts at the symposium engaged in discussions covering various topics essential for the future of connectivity. Sessions included foundations for 5G-Advanced and 6G, global standards, spectrum allocation, and the integration of AI in sustainable networks. The symposium served as a platform to underline the importance of global interoperability and the collaborative development of 6G across nations and sectors.
This event reinforced India’s commitment to contributing to global research and standards in 6G technology while also building local capabilities and strengthening international partnerships. Discussions focused on coordinated standards development, collaborative research, and large-scale testing, all while ensuring affordability, security, and sustainability in the design of future telecom networks.
New Agreements and Future Initiatives
A significant outcome of the symposium was the announcement of five new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various global agencies, including GSMA and the 6G Innovation Forum in Taiwan. These agreements aim to bolster opportunities for international cooperation and knowledge exchange. Additionally, the Bharat 6G Alliance unveiled ten white papers and reports, including a Progress Report on 6G Joint Principles, illustrating the ongoing efforts to create a secure and inclusive 6G ecosystem.
During the valedictory session, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) previewed the upcoming Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2026, set to occur from October 27 to 29, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This national platform, organized by CSIR in collaboration with various government departments, is themed “Creative Minds, Catalyzing Science, Empowering Technologies.” The event will feature plenary talks, technical sessions, and panel discussions focused on advancing science and technology in India.
Furthermore, the DoT is slated to lead a session on “Intelligent Networks and Quantum Communication” at ESTIC, with industry leaders presenting on technologies that will shape the future digital landscape. The discussions will include insights from various technology institutions and an expert panel moderated by Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT.
