Bengaluru Park’s Bizarre Rules Spark Outrage

A recent notice at a public park in Bengaluru has ignited a wave of reactions online, as it outlines a series of unusual regulations. Among the restrictions are prohibitions on jogging, a requirement to walk in a clockwise direction, and a ban on gaming activities. The notice was shared by local resident Sahana on social media, where she expressed her disbelief and frustration over the seemingly absurd rules.

Unusual Regulations Raise Eyebrows

The notice, which has gone viral, lists several rules that many find perplexing. Sahana’s post on X (formerly Twitter) highlights the prohibition of jogging in Indiranagar Park, prompting her to question the logic behind such restrictions. She expressed her concerns about the lack of public spaces in Bengaluru and criticized the policing of existing parks, suggesting that these rules cater to a select group rather than the general public.

In her post, she wrote, “You have got to be joking right? No jogging in Indiranagar park? What’s next, no Western clothes in parks?” Her comments resonated with many users who echoed her sentiments, calling the rules “bizarre” and “ridiculous.”

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The online community has responded with a mix of agreement and justification for the park’s regulations. Some users have voiced their support for Sahana, labeling the rules as nonsensical. One user recounted a personal experience of removing a similar sign in front of a park guard, indicating a history of discontent with the park’s management. Conversely, others have attempted to rationalize the restrictions. One user suggested that the rules aim to prevent collisions among park-goers, especially in light of Bengaluru’s growing population. They argued that maintaining a single direction for walking and jogging could enhance safety and reduce accidents.

Practicality vs. Freedom in Public Spaces

While some users find the rules impractical, others see a rationale behind them. Comments have emerged discussing the narrow pathways within the park, which may not accommodate multiple joggers or walkers moving in different directions. One user noted that similar rules exist in other parks, indicating a trend towards managing space effectively in crowded urban areas.

Despite the differing opinions, the debate highlights a broader issue regarding the accessibility and management of public spaces in Bengaluru. As the city continues to grow, the balance between maintaining order and allowing freedom in public parks remains a contentious topic among residents.
