A Platform for Women Athletes
The ASMITA Yogasana League serves as a crucial platform for women athletes to showcase their skills. Participants qualified through zonal championships held across India last year, where over 7,000 women competed. The league featured five categories: traditional yogasana, artistic yogasana (single), artistic yogasana (pair), rhythmic yogasana (pair), and artistic yogasana (group).
The top eight athletes from both Under-18 and Above-18 age categories represented four zones: East (Bihar), West (Rajasthan), South (Tamil Nadu), and North (Uttar Pradesh). This structure not only promotes healthy competition but also encourages women to engage in sports. The event was organized by Yogasana Bharat, with support from the Ministry of Sports, which allocated approximately โน25 lakhs in prize money for the winners.
The league aims to empower women through sports, fostering a culture of fitness and health within families. In 2024, a total of 163 ASMITA womenโs leagues were held, involving over 17,000 women across 12 sports disciplines.
