Asia Cup 2025: Hardik Pandya Set for Fitness Check at NCA

Hardik Pandya is set to undergo a fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12, as India prepares for the Asia Cup 2025. The all-rounder has been training in Mumbai since mid-July and played a crucial role in India’s recent successes, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has already completed his fitness evaluation, and Suryakumar Yadav is working towards recovery from surgery. The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the UAE, with India drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan.

Fitness Assessments Ahead of Asia Cup

As the Asia Cup 2025 approaches, key players are undergoing fitness assessments to ensure they are ready for the tournament. Hardik Pandya, a vital player for India, will be evaluated at the NCA in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12. His fitness is particularly crucial as he has been a driving force behind India’s white-ball achievements, including their triumphs in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Pandya has been training diligently in Mumbai since mid-July, and his all-round capabilities will be essential for India’s campaign in the Asia Cup, which kicks off on September 9.

Shreyas Iyer, another significant player, completed his fitness assessment between July 27 and 29. After leading the Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, Iyer has not participated in T20 internationals since December 2023. His experience could be a valuable asset for the selectors as they finalize the squad for the Asia Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Recovery Journey

Team India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is currently focused on his recovery from sports hernia surgery, which he underwent in June in Munich. He is expected to spend an additional week at the NCA, working closely with the medical team to regain full fitness. Recently, Suryakumar shared a video on Instagram, showcasing his return to batting practice and his commitment to building his fitness levels. His enthusiasm is evident as he expressed, “Can’t wait to be back doing what I love.”

Suryakumar’s performance in IPL 2025 was outstanding, earning him the Most Valuable Player award with a total of 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the season, just behind Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans, who claimed the Orange Cap with 759 runs. Under Suryakumar’s leadership, India has seen considerable success, winning 17 out of 22 matches since he took over as captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is.

Asia Cup 2025: Tournament Details

India has been placed in Group A, alongside their arch-rivals Pakistan, setting the stage for potentially thrilling encounters. The Indian team will begin their campaign against the United Arab Emirates on September 10, with the possibility of facing Pakistan multiple times during the tournament.

The Asia Cup is a significant event for the Indian cricket team, and the selectors will be keen to finalize a squad that can capitalize on their recent successes. With key players like Pandya, Iyer, and Suryakumar working towards full fitness, fans are eager to see how the team performs in this prestigious tournament.
