Annual Horse Show Showcases NCC Cadets’ Skills

The Annual Horse Show, a highlight of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) calendar, took place on January 19, 2025, at the 61 Cavalry Ground in Delhi Cantt. This event is part of the Republic Day Camp, which features national-level inter-directorate equestrian competitions. The show brings together cadets from across the country, allowing them to demonstrate their equestrian skills in thrilling events such as tent pegging and show jumping. This year, the competition saw participation from 40 Senior Division and 20 Senior Wing cadets, both boys and girls, showcasing their talents and dedication to the sport.
Celebrating Equestrian Excellence
The horse show is not just a competition; it is a celebration of hard work and skill. Cadets train rigorously throughout the year to prepare for this prestigious event. The competition culminates in a series of awards recognizing outstanding performances. This year, the Best Rider award was shared between Under Officer Ansh Karnawat from the Rajasthan Directorate and Junior Under Officer Vadlmudi Lokesh from the Andhra Pradesh & Telangana Directorate. These awards not only recognize individual talent but also inspire other cadets to strive for excellence in equestrian sports.
The Role of Equestrian Training in Personal Development
The DG NCC, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of equestrian training in shaping the character of cadets. He noted that horsemanship instills resilience, discipline, patience, and enduranceโqualities that are essential for success in all areas of life. The training provides cadets with thrilling experiences while also teaching them valuable life skills. The DG highlighted that the NCC currently has 294 horses available for training, which allows cadets to develop coordination, strength, and confidence.
Moreover, the NCC has established 20 riding units across 12 directorates, ensuring that cadets have ample opportunities to excel in equestrian sports. These units are crucial for fostering a culture of sportsmanship and teamwork among cadets. The rigorous training programs at the NCC Remount and Veterinary (R&V) units prepare cadets for various competitions, helping them hone their skills and build camaraderie.
Achievements and Future Prospects
The NCC cadets have made significant strides in equestrian sports over the past year. In 2024, they participated in multiple regional competitions, securing five gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. Additionally, three cadets qualified for the Junior National Equestrian Championship, marking a notable achievement for the NCC. These accomplishments reflect the dedication and talent of the cadets, as well as the effectiveness of the training programs in place.
As the NCC continues to promote equestrian sports, the future looks bright for aspiring riders. The organization remains committed to providing cadets with the resources and opportunities needed to excel. With ongoing support and training, the NCC aims to nurture the next generation of equestrian athletes, ensuring that they are well-prepared for both competitions and life beyond the saddle. The Annual Horse Show serves as a testament to the hard work and passion of these young cadets, inspiring them to reach new heights in their equestrian journeys.
