Awarapan and Aashiqui 2 Set for Re-Release

In a thrilling development for Bollywood fans, Salil Acharya has confirmed that two beloved films, Awarapan (2007) and Aashiqui 2 (2013), are slated for re-release. This trend of bringing back cult classics has gained momentum, with recent successes like Tumbbad and Laila Majnu paving the way. Acharya announced these plans during an event for Matrix Fight Night 16, expressing excitement for the upcoming screenings.
Re-Release Trend Gains Momentum
The re-release of films that initially struggled at the box office has become a notable trend in the Indian film industry. Last year, Tumbbad and Laila Majnu saw renewed interest and impressive earnings during their re-runs. This year, Sanam Teri Kasam also made headlines by grossing nearly Rs. 50 crores, despite its lackluster performance upon its original release. Salil Acharya highlighted this growing trend, stating, โThe re-release trend is working well and it’s great.โ He noted that both Awarapan and Aashiqui 2 are expected to attract audiences once again, as they resonate with fans who appreciate their storytelling and performances.
Behind the Scenes of Awarapan
Salil Acharya reminisced about his experience filming Awarapan, which was released nearly 17 years ago. He recalled the challenges of shooting a pivotal death scene in one take due to time constraints and fading light. โAwarapan was a physically demanding film,โ he shared, reflecting on the intensity of the production. The film, which also starred Shriya Saran and Ashish Vidyarthi, tells the story of a gangster tasked with caring for his boss’s mistress while grappling with his tragic past. Its emotional depth and memorable soundtrack have contributed to its enduring popularity among audiences.
Aashiqui 2: A Blockbuster Legacy
Directed by Mohit Suri, Aashiqui 2 became a massive hit upon its release in 2013, captivating audiences with its tale of love and ambition in the music industry. The film features Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, showcasing the journey of an alcoholic singer who mentors an aspiring performer. Unlike Awarapan, which struggled at the box office, Aashiqui 2 achieved blockbuster status, solidifying its place in Bollywood history. Acharya expressed his anticipation for the re-release, stating that he hopes audiences will revisit these films and appreciate them anew.
As the trend of re-releases continues to flourish, fans eagerly await the chance to experience these iconic films on the big screen once more.
