The Indian automotive industry is gearing up for a significant transformation, as highlighted during the launch of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Confidence in the Auto Component Sector
During the launch ceremony, Minister Goyal unveiled the Show Directory, ACMA Buyers Guide, and a report on transitioning to electric vehicles. He expressed that these initiatives reflect the confidence of the auto component sector. The auto component industry is crucial to the overall health of the Indian automotive landscape. Goyal noted that while negotiating Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), the auto component sector stands out due to its robust performance. He praised the industry for achieving a net surplus in exports, surpassing imports. This achievement underscores the sector’s potential to thrive in international markets.
The Minister highlighted that the next decade will be pivotal for the auto industry, shaping the roadmap for a self-reliant India by 2047. He projected that achieving $100 billion in exports within the next ten years would significantly contribute to India’s self-sufficiency. Goyal emphasized the importance of cost-competitiveness and high-quality precision engineering in the auto component sector. He urged industry players to embrace innovation and technology to maintain growth and competitiveness in the global market.
The Shift Towards Electric Vehicles
Minister Goyal underscored the urgency of building a robust electric vehicle ecosystem in India. He described EVs as not only a necessity but also an economically viable option for the future. The Minister called on the auto sector to leverage economies of scale to capture global markets. He stressed the importance of developing indigenous equipment to reduce dependence on foreign economies, particularly those that lack transparency.
The Minister pointed out that India must act swiftly to establish its own EV ecosystem before other countries catch up. He encouraged manufacturers of buses, trucks, and related components to consider a complete transition to electric vehicles. This shift is not only economically viable but also essential for the country’s sustainable development. Goyal urged the auto component industry to create a five-year action plan that outlines a clear roadmap for transitioning from internal combustion engines (ICEs) to electric vehicles.
A Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, or Developed India, by 2047. Minister Goyal emphasized that this vision is a collective commitment of 1.4 billion Indians. The government is dedicated to ensuring ease of living for every citizen, and the automotive sector plays a crucial role in this mission. The expo aims to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, startups, policymakers, and academia.
The event will serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, showcasing advancements in automotive components, electric vehicles, and sustainable mobility solutions. With over 1,000 companies expected to participate, the expo will highlight India’s growing role as a global manufacturing hub. It aims to raise the bar for automotive and mobility exhibitions in the country, setting the stage for future innovations and collaborations.
