The fourth edition of Project Veer Gatha 4.0 has made waves across India. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, is part of the Republic Day celebrations. It has seen an overwhelming response this year, with around 1.76 crore students participating from approximately 2.31 lakh schools. The project aims to honor the bravery of Gallantry Award recipients and educate students about India’s rich history and cultural heritage.
A National Competition with a Purpose
Launched on September 5, 2024, Project Veer Gatha 4.0 invited students to engage in essay and paragraph writing. The topics were diverse and thought-provoking, allowing students to express their views on their role models, particularly focusing on Gallantry Award winners. Participants also explored the lives of freedom fighters, including Rani Laxmibai and the significant events of the 1857 First War of Independence.
This year’s competition was not just about writing; it was an educational journey. Students learned about the contributions of various heroes in India’s struggle for freedom. The project aimed to deepen their understanding of the nation’s historical and cultural legacy. By encouraging students to reflect on these topics, the initiative fostered a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among the youth.
Selection Process and Winners
The competition culminated in the selection of 100 national winners, divided into four categories. Each categoryโPreparatory Stage (Grades 3-5), Middle Stage (Grades 6-8), Secondary Stage (Grades 9-10), and Senior Stage (Grades 11-12)โsaw 25 winners. The evaluation process was rigorous, with nearly 4,029 entries submitted for national-level assessment after evaluations at the State and District levels.
The winners will be honored in a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education in New Delhi. Each winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and an invitation to witness the Republic Day Parade in 2025 as special guests. Additionally, eight winners at the State/UT level and four at the district level will also be recognized for their outstanding contributions.
The Journey of Project Veer Gatha
Project Veer Gatha began in 2021 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ celebrating India’s 75th year of independence. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the acts of bravery by Gallantry Awardees and share their inspiring life stories. Over the years, the project has expanded significantly, reaching more students each edition.
In the first two editions, only 25 national winners were selected, with participation numbers around eight lakh and 19 lakh, respectively. The third edition marked a turning point, with 100 national winners and participation rising to 1.36 crore students. The momentum continued to build in Veer Gatha 4.0, showcasing the initiative’s growing impact across the nation.
Through this project, students not only learn about bravery and sacrifice but also develop a deeper appreciation for their country’s history. The journey of Project Veer Gatha reflects the spirit of unity and patriotism that binds the nation together.
