Akashvani Kokrajhar Enhances Broadcast Capabilities
A significant advancement in communication and cultural integration was marked today with the virtual inauguration of a new 10 KW FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar. The event took place in Guwahati and was attended by prominent figures, including Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Honโble Governor of Assam, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Honโble Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Honโble Chief Minister of Assam. This upgrade is expected to greatly enhance the station’s ability to serve its community.
A Legacy of Cultural Promotion
Established in 1999, Akashvani Kokrajhar has been a vital platform for promoting the rich cultural heritage of the diverse tribal and community groups in the region. The station has played a crucial role in broadcasting educational, informational, and entertainment programs in local languages. Over the years, it has become a trusted source of information and a means of cultural expression for the people of Kokrajhar.
The new transmitter will replace the aging 20 KW Medium Wave transmitter and the limited 100 Watt FM transmitter that was installed in 2012. This upgrade is a transformative development for the station, allowing it to reach a wider audience and provide better quality broadcasts. The introduction of the 10 KW FM transmitter is not just a technical upgrade; it represents a commitment to enhancing communication and cultural integration in the region.
Expanded Reach and Improved Quality
The newly inaugurated transmitter will significantly improve the quality of FM broadcasts, covering a radius of 70 kilometers. This expansion will allow Akashvani Kokrajhar to reach over 30 lakh residents in Kokrajhar and nearby districts, including Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang. The enhanced broadcasting capabilities will enable the station to connect more effectively with farmers, youth, and local communities.
With this upgrade, Akashvani Kokrajhar will fulfill its role as a national public broadcaster more effectively. The station will now be able to provide high-quality programming that meets the needs and interests of its diverse audience. This includes increased broadcasting of programs featuring Bodo folk music, Rajbongshi songs, and other tribal melodies, which are essential for cultural preservation.
Community Gratitude and Future Prospects
During the virtual inauguration, Shri Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council, expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Kokrajhar and the Bodoland Territorial Region. He thanked the Prime Minister and Shri Vaishnaw for addressing the long-standing request of Bodo listeners to upgrade the regional Akashvani radio center. This upgrade is seen as a significant step towards better representation and service for the local communities.
Smt. Pragya Paliwal Gaur, Director General of Akashvani, along with other senior officers and staff, were also present during the inauguration. The event marks a new chapter for Akashvani Kokrajhar, promising to enhance the station’s ability to serve its community and preserve its rich cultural heritage. As the station embarks on this new journey, it is poised to become an even more integral part of the lives of the people it serves.
