Promoting India’s Tourism: Cruise and Adventure Initiatives

The Ministry of Tourism in India is actively working to enhance the country’s appeal as a global tourist destination. Through various initiatives, the ministry aims to promote diverse tourism products, including cruise tourism and adventure tourism. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to position India as a preferred choice for travelers worldwide. Recently, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, provided insights into these initiatives during a session in the Rajya Sabha.

National Strategy for Cruise Tourism

To boost cruise tourism, the Ministry of Tourism has developed a National Strategy for Cruise Tourism. This strategy aims to position India as a leading destination for cruise travelers. The ministry recognizes the potential of cruise tourism to attract international visitors and enhance the overall tourism experience in the country. By focusing on developing infrastructure at ports and waterways, the government aims to facilitate smoother operations for cruise lines and enhance the experience for tourists.

Additionally, the ministry is providing financial assistance to state governments and central agencies for the development of tourism infrastructure. This includes projects under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme and the scheme for โ€˜Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development.โ€™ These initiatives are designed to improve facilities at ports, making them more accessible and appealing to cruise operators and tourists alike.

Adventure Tourism Development Strategy

In parallel with cruise tourism, the Ministry of Tourism is also focusing on adventure tourism. A National Strategy for Adventure Tourism has been prepared to promote this sector. The strategy emphasizes the development of adventure destinations across the country, ensuring safety measures are in place for tourists engaging in adventurous activities.

The ministry aims to promote skill development and capacity building in this sector. By training local guides and operators, the government seeks to enhance the quality of adventure tourism experiences. Marketing efforts will also be ramped up to attract both domestic and international tourists interested in adventure activities. This comprehensive approach aims to position India as a prime destination for adventure tourism, tapping into the growing global interest in outdoor and adventure experiences.

Financial Support for Tourism Infrastructure

The Ministry of Tourism is committed to providing financial support for the development of tourism infrastructure across various states. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, numerous projects have been sanctioned to enhance coastal circuits and cruise tourism. This financial assistance is crucial for states to develop their tourism potential and improve facilities for visitors.

The ministry’s support extends to projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure at ports and waterways. This includes the development of passenger terminals, cruise facilities, and other essential amenities. By investing in these projects, the government aims to create a robust tourism infrastructure that can accommodate the increasing number of tourists and enhance their overall experience in India.
