This centralized hub hosts cutting-edge tools that cater to the entire chip design cycle, including advanced nodes up to 5 nm. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic design automation (EDA) tools, which are essential for modern semiconductor design.
In addition to design tools, the ChipIN Centre offers robust compute and hardware infrastructure. It provides intellectual property (IP) cores and expert guidance to support design fabrication at the SCL foundry. This initiative is part of the Chips to Start-up (C2S) Programme and the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, both launched by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India. These programs aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, enabling students and researchers to gain hands-on experience in semiconductor design.
Currently, the ChipIN Centre engages with over 20,000 students across more than 250 academic institutions. It also collaborates with 45 start-up projects. The goal is to provide access to EDA tools for 85,000 students pursuing B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD degrees within five years. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.
Expanding Access to EDA Tools
The demand for EDA tools has surged among researchers and students in India. In response, Siemens has expanded the usage scope of its EDA tools from 120 colleges to over 250 institutions under the Chips to Start-up (C2S) Programme. This expansion allows more students and researchers to access advanced design solutions, fostering innovation and collaboration in semiconductor design.
Siemens has also introduced its powerful Veloceโข hardware-assisted verification solution to companies approved under the DLI Scheme. This solution is crucial for addressing the verification and validation challenges faced by designers of complex systems on chips (SoCs) and integrated circuits (ICs). The Veloce system comprises several components, including Veloce Strato hardware, Veloce Apps, and Veloce Protocol Solutions. With a compute facility of 128 CPU cores and a capacity of 640 million gates, Veloce is designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern semiconductor design.
