Dominique Pire was a Belgian Dominican friar and priest. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1958. Dominique Pire was born on February 10, 1910, in Dinant, Belgium. He was raised in a devout Catholic family. He joined the Dominican Order in 1928 and studied at the Dominican College of Philosophers and Theologians in Leuven, Belgium. He was ordained as a priest in 1934. During World War II, Pire actively worked to rescue Jews and other refugees from the Nazis. He set up a network of safe houses and provided false documents to help people escape persecution.
