Hansa Mehta (3 July 1897 โ€“ 4 April 1995), well known in India as a social worker, freedom fighter, and educationist. His father Manubhai Mehta was the Diwan of the princely states of Baroda and Bikaner. Hansa Mehta was married to Jeevraj Mehta, one of the foremost physicians of the country and a close associate of Gandhiji. The committee that gave shape to the Constitution of India included 15 women. Along with the constitution, he also played an important role in the formation of Indian society. Hansa Mehta was one of them. She was born on 3 July 1897 in Baroda state.

S.V Ranga Rao (3 July 1918 โ€“ 18 July 1974), an Indian film actor, director, and producer known for his works in Telugu cinema and Tamil cinema. He was known for his natural acting style, portraying complex – social, biographical, and mythological characters such as – Ghatotkacha in Maya Bazaar (1957) which is regarded as the “greatest Indian film of all time” by CNN-India Poll. Rao was born on 3 July 1918 in Nuzvidu, Madras Presidency, British India (now Andhra Pradesh, India).

Adoor Gopalakrishnan, an Indian film director, scriptwriter, and producer and is regarded as one of the most notable filmmakers in India. He got many awards including Padma Vibhushan (2006), Padma Shri (1984), and Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2004) for his valuable contributions to Indian cinema. Gopalakrishnan was born on 3 July 1941 in Mannadi, the Kingdom of Travancore, British India (present-day Pathanamthitta, Kerala, India).

Harbhajan Singh, an Indian cricketer and an actor who mainly features in Tamil films. He has played all formats of cricket for India. Harbhajan was a specialist spinner who taken the second-highest number of Test wickets by an off-spinner after Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan. He was born on 3 July 1980 in Jalandhar, Punjab, India.

Death Anniversary on 3 July

3 July in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Namdev (26 October 1270 -โ€‰3 July 1350), an Indian poet and saint. He lived as a devotee of Lord Vitthal (Krishna) of Pandharpur. Namdev has become a famous saint of Maharashtra. During his time, the Nath and Mahanubhav cults were propagated in Maharashtra. The Nath sect was a supporter of the yogic practice of “Alakh Niranjan” and was opposed to extravagances and the Mahanubhav sect, despite being opposed to Vedic rituals and polytheism, did not consider idol worship to be completely prohibited. Apart from these, the worship of “Vithoba” of Pandharpur was also prevalent in Maharashtra. He died onโ€‰3 July 1350 in Pandharpur.

Raaj Kumar (8 October 1926 โ€“ 3 July 1996), a film actor. He was a sub-inspector in the Mumbai Police in the late 1940s before he turned to act with the 1952 Hindi film Rangeeli. He appeared in the Oscar-nominated 1957 film Mother India and went on to star in over 70 Hindi films in a career that spanned over four decades. Kumar died on 3 July 1996 at the age of 69 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey (25 June 1975 โ€“ 3 July 1999) an officer of the Indian Army who was posthumously awarded Indiaโ€™s highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra, for his audacious courage and leadership during the Kargil War in 1999. The Kargil war with Pakistan is called special for many reasons. On the one hand, this war was fought on very difficult and high peaks, which were covered with snow and inaccessible, as well as this war was the result of long preparations of Pakistan, whose plan was in its mind for years. One of the difficult fronts of this war was that of Khalubar, which Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, leading his 1/11 Gorkha Rifles, fought against the enemy, and agreed to win. Even though, he had to sacrifice his life in this endeavor. He died on 3 July 1999 at the age of 24 in Bunker Ridge, Khalubar, Batalik Sector, Kargil, Ladakh, India.
