Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s family is seeking privacy following the sudden loss of their beloved husband and father. Anuradha Lekhi Gupta, his wife, released a heartfelt statement addressing the distress caused to their children after a video from Gupta’s funeral went viral on social media. The family is grappling with their grief, and Anuradha emphasized the need for compassion during this challenging time.

Tragic Loss and Viral Incident

Sanjay Gupta passed away on October 30, 2026, after suffering a fatal head injury from an accidental fall at his residence in Versova, Mumbai. His last rites were conducted the following day. The family’s grief was compounded when a video surfaced, allegedly showing their daughter, Dalai, making a middle-finger gesture towards photographers outside the funeral. The footage depicted a young girl in a car, her face obscured by a hoodie, as paparazzi surrounded the vehicle.

In her statement, Anuradha expressed concern for her children, who have grown up away from the media spotlight. She stated, “Having grown up away from the glare of the limelight and the intrusive nature of paparazzi culture, they were deeply distressed by the sudden intrusion into their privacy at such a difficult time. In their grief and anguish, some of their reactions may have been directed towards certain members of the media. I sincerely regret any hurt this may have caused.”

A Call for Understanding and Compassion

Anuradha urged the public to interpret her children’s reactions as expressions of their grief rather than as disrespectful behavior. “I humbly request everyone to understand these reactions for what they truly are, the expressions of grieving children struggling to come to terms with an irreparable loss,” she added.

Additionally, she appealed to the media and the public to refrain from sharing the footage and to remove any content that could leave lasting emotional scars on her children. “I request you to kindly excuse them, and appeal to everyone to delete any content that may leave lasting emotional scars on their young minds. Please allow them the privacy, compassion and space they need to grieve the loss of their father,” Anuradha stated.

Gratitude for Support During Difficult Times

In her statement, Anuradha began by acknowledging the family’s profound loss and expressed gratitude for the support they have received. She thanked relatives, friends, fans, and members of the media for their condolences. Confirming the circumstances of her husband’s death, she shared, “Sanjay suffered a fatal head injury in an accidental fall, which led to his untimely demise.”

Reflecting on Gupta’s relationship with their children, she noted, “Sanjay loved his family and children immensely. Our children are adolescents who have suddenly lost their beloved father.” Anuradha concluded her message by thanking everyone for their understanding and requesting that the family be given the space to cope with their loss.
