Workers’ Unions Secure Major Settlement with UltraTech

In a major breakthrough for worker welfare, two Memorandums of Settlement (MoS) were signed on October 14, 2026, between the management of UltraTech in Bathinda and local workers’ unions. This significant achievement follows dedicated conciliation efforts led by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central) in Jalandhar, part of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

The settlements, agreed upon with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), promise to deliver financial benefits totaling approximately ₹3.36 crore to 217 workers over the next five years. This development marks a positive step in promoting equitable industrial relations and enhancing the economic well-being of the workers involved.

A notable aspect of these settlements is the provision for retroactive benefits starting from the second quarter of the year, adhering to the specified terms and conditions outlined in the agreements. This initiative reflects the successful collaboration between management and workers’ representatives, facilitated by open dialogue and the effective mediation of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) office in Jalandhar. The resolution underscores the pivotal role of effective conciliation in achieving mutually acceptable outcomes and fostering collective bargaining.

This successful agreement illustrates the ongoing dedication of the Ministry of Labour and Employment to uphold the rights and interests of workers. It also emphasizes the importance of resolving industrial disputes amicably, promoting fair labor practices, and reinforcing constructive dialogue and collaboration between management and labor unions. Such achievements contribute significantly to a more harmonious working environment in India’s industrial sector.

Overall, the settlement represents a proactive approach to industrial relations in the country and signals a commitment to worker welfare that aligns with both national labor policies and global standards. The harmonious resolution sets a precedent for future negotiations and showcases the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in the workplace.
